- Ensure that diagnostics methods and parameters are type checked so that we can
catch any potential issues.
- Move plinth/modules/diagnostics/check.py to plinth/diagnostic_check.py to
avoid many circular dependencies created. This is due to
plinth.modules.diagnostics automatically imported when
plinth.modules.diagnostics.check is imported. Also app.py is already (type)
dependent on diagnostic_check due to diagnose() method. To make the Check
classes independent of diagnostic module is okay.
Tests:
- Run make check-type.
- Run full diagnostics with following apps installed: torproxy, tor.
- Test to netcat to 9051 in tor works.
- Test 'port available for internal/external networks' in firewall works.

- This will leave /etc/{plinth,freedombox} empty by default making service more
robust to run across various environments and situations. See systemd's
explanation for more details.
- Use Debian maintainer scripts remove all the existing files in
/etc/plinth/modules-enabled.
- Read from /usr/share/freedombox/modules-enabled then from
/etc/plinth/modules-enabled and finally from /etc/freedombox/modules-enabled.
Later read ones override previously read files. Any file pointing to /dev/null
will mean the module must be ignored.
Tests:
- Clean up /etc/plinth, /etc/freedombox and
/usr/share/freedombox/modules-enabled. Run service and notice that files are
getting loaded from development folder using a debug message.
- Run setup.py and notice that files get installed in
/usr/share/freedombox/modules-enabled/ and in the next run they get loaded from
there.
- Create a override file in /etc/plinth/modules-enabled/transmission and notice
that overriden file gets priority over the one in
/usr/share/freedombox/modules-enabled.
- Link the file /etc/plinth/modules-enabled/transmission to /dev/null and notice
that is not loaded.
- Create another file in /etc/freedombox/modules-enabled/transmission and notice
that it overrides the previous two files.
- All affected modules are loaded.
- Build a new Debian package and ensure that upgrading 23.8 to new version
removes are all configuration files.
- Build developer documentation and test that Tutorial -> Full Code and Tutorial
-> Skeleton sections have been updated with references to
-.../modules-enabled/... paths.
- Install quassel and notice that certificates were copied to /var/lib/quassel
directory. Change domain to another domain and notice that certificates were
copied again to that directory.

The original change worked ok in a container, but failed in
virtualbox. This was due to the component being replaced by the Daemon
component that had the same ID, on systems where time is managed.

Earlier /etc/timezone was used to store timezone. Now, we use /etc/localtime
symlink instead. Since the change, backup/restore for timezone has not been
working. Implement this by backing up and restoring the new symlink. Borg
understands symlinks so it properly backs them up and restore them.
When the symlink is restored, timedatectl does not immediately show the new
timezone. This is because a DBus activated daemon 'systemd-timedated' which
supplies the information for timedatectl needs to be reloaded. Add this service
to list of services that backup framework needs to restart.
Tests:
- Set a new timezone. Backup datetime app. Set another timezone. Restore the
datetime app. Visiting the datetime app shows the restored timezone as expected
and timedatectl on command line also immediately shows the expected timezone.

There are plans to remove /etc/timezone from Debian (Debian bug: #822733). It
has been removed temporarily and that caused failures in FreedomBox. Since we
use systemd-timesyncd and timedatectl, use timedatectl to retrieve the currently
set timezone value. This eliminates the need to read timezone at a lower level.
Tests:
- Getting and setting the timezone works.
- Removing /etc/timezone and /etc/localtime then visiting the Date & Time app
works. After setting the timezone, /etc/localtime file is created as symlink.

module.app property usage is greatly reduced because setup() and force_upgrade()
method are now part of App class instead of at the module level. Remove the

- Primary purpose is to complete the App API and allow for multiple apps to be
present in a module without a single clashing setup() method. Secondary
objective is to get rid of SetupHelper instance simple use App instance instead.
- This brings us closer to not needing to implement setup() method for some of
the typical apps.
- Remove default value None for old_version parameter.
- A valid integer value is always passed to this call.
- The value of None is undefined.
- Simplifies the App API slightly.
- Drop setting 'pre', 'post' values to indicate the stage of setup for the App.
- Simplifies the setup methods significantly. Eliminates a class of
bugs (some of them seen earlier).
- The UI can show a simple 'installing...' or progress spinner instead of
individual stages.
- There are currently many inconsistencies where many operations are not
wrapped in helper.call() calls.

When 'systemctl show' is used see the ConditionResult property, the value is
correct only when the unit has been started. When the unit is not running but
can run, ConditionResult has a value of 'no' leading to an incorrect result.
This in turn leads to _is_time_managed() returning incorrect value once the
service has been stopped. FreedomBox would have noted that daemon can be
enabled/disabled during startup while during attempts to enable it the action
script will think that service can't be enabled/disabled.
Fix this by using a better approach to detect when the service can run. Newer
versions of systemd (likely >=250) have the ability to run 'systemd-analzye
condition --unit=systemd-timesyncd.service' which have been ideal to detect
this. However, --unit option is not available in older versions. Use
systemd-virt-detect (part of systemd package) to detect for containers instead.
Tests:
- Boot the machine and run datetime functional tests
- User interface should not show enable/disable button for the app in container
but show in VM.
- Running first setup (after removing /var/lib/plinth/plinth.sqlite3) should
work on container and VM.
- Run above tests on a container and on a VM

- In Django 2.2 django.conf.urls.url() is an alias to django.urls.re_path().
- In Django 4.0, url() function will be removed. On Django 3.2, it throws a
warning that this function will be removed in future.
Tests:
- Run unit tests with Django 3.2 and Django 2.2.
- With Django 3.2 there are no warnings when running unit tests and when running
FreedomBox Service.
- Visit a few affected apps with both Django versions.

- ugettext functions will be removed in Django 4.0. Each use emits a warning
when running with Django 3.2. Since we have warnings enabled in developer mode,
we see quite a few messages because of this.
- ugettext is already a simple alias of gettext. So, no regressions are
expected.
Tests:
- Accessing an affected app in UI with Django 3.2 and Django 2.2 works fine.
- Using Django 3.2 there are no warnings related to removal of ugettext
functions.
- Ran regular unit tests.

No errors show that name of feature files are correct. The number says that all
functional test features are included.
- Remove pytest_bdd (or modify the import name) and run py.test-3 --collect-only
skips collecting all functional tests and shows only 300+ tests.
- Run functional tests for a few apps with py.test-3 --include-functional -m
app. For storage, deluge.
- Run unit tests with py.test-3. Functional tests are listed by skipped.

systemd-timesyncd service does not run if we have another NTP daemon installed
or FreedomBox runs inside a container where the host manages the time. In this
case, make the application as unmanaged - app can't be disabled, no app
diagnostics is shown and enable/disable functional tests are skipped.

- Run FreedomBox inside a KVM virtualization module, check that
systemd-timesyncd is running, datetime app can be disabled and all
diagnostics and date_and_time functional tests pass.
- Run FreedomBox inside a systemd-nspawn container, check that

the diagnostics button is not shown and two date_and_time functional tests

Previously, we switched from ntp to chrony. However, since chrony
conflicts with ntp, this change in dependency causes
unattended-upgrades to skip upgrading freedombox.
Switch to systemd-timesyncd, which does not conflict with either
package. We can switch back to chrony after all users have upgraded to
the most recent release.
